Music for Voices

- Ella Fitzgerald's version is in the key of C minor using an Aeolian scale. I suppose that the reason for using this key is because it fits the singer's range and as it is a vocal arrangement it makes sense to adjust the key to the singer. - There are lots of backing vocals in this arrangement, creating lots of harmonic layers, whom are not singing any words. The reason for this is because the main focus of this song is the lead singer and giving the harmonies a bigger part would take away that focus. Also, because the phrasing is quite fast due to the speed of the song and the melody line is very dynamic, with this amount of harmonies it would sound messy and it would clash. - There is only little instrumental accompaniment in this arrangement, piano and harp. Again, this is done because the main focus has to remain on the lead singer. Because there are already so many harmonies, with more instrumentation it would overpower the lead singer. -The piano is playing a counterm...

Business Plan

Image
Putting up a gig in a small venu e I would like to begin with explaining what my main goal would be. Of course, this would be much further within the process of this plan because at this moment I do not have the money or connections to make it succeed, but that is why I am setting up this business plan: Under ideal circumstances, I would run a well known events company specialising in music performance. My main idea would be that my roster would be divided in 4 colours and so 4 genres of music: -orange: folk, country -purple: electronic -blue: soul, blues -red: Jazz I would have found these artists by going to gigs and searching for the people who I think of fit the profile and by contacting people I already know in the music industry. On the other side, I would search for venues and decide what the most suiting colour for it would be, and propose to set up a gig, which I will explain in further detail later. Eventually, venues would be contacting me, asking for ...

Textures and Acoustic Environment

Track 1: Is the instrumentation and texture of the music suitable for the acoustic environment? Why? The horn and drum sections are very large. All those instruments together are creating a lot more vibration than if it would be just one instrument. Because this is an open space and there is hardly any walls where the sound could bounce off and reverberate, you need a lot of vibration to create a sound that can be heard by everyone on the tribunes as they are far away. The texture is homophonic. the horn section is playing the main melody line and the drums are accompanying them with rhythm. The texture is alright for the environment because there is only one melody playing. Because the area is big it would not be a good idea to play more melodies at once. The vibrations of the different melodies would have to travel far and bounce back at the building. This means a lot of the sounds would get lost and there would be a lot echo. If you are creating a complex melod...

The Sound & Music Industry

Copyright, royalties, and licenses all deeply depend on each other. Without royalties, there would be no use for Copyright and licences. Without licenses, there would be no use for Copyright and royalties. Without Copyright, there would be no use for royalties and licenses. Copyright   Copyright is one of the most important things to consider when writing a song. After all, you would not want someone else to steal your idea and make money out of it. Intellectual property (IP) and Copyright laws apply as soon as your idea is written down or recorded, this counts for both the lyrics and the instrumental parts. But of course, just a piece of paper with lyrics or composition on it will not be legitimate in court. There are two ways to legalise your copyright.  One way is by sending it(via  by registered post)  to yourself in a sealed envelope. This way, if it turns out someone used your songs, you can prove that it was your idea by showing the envelope in...

Functions of a Keyboard: Term 3

PIPE ORGAN The pipe organ is a big and expensive instrument that you'll most likely find in churches or other big rooms. The reason for this is because they are so large and their sound is very loud. It is easy for a pipe organ to fill a very large room with sound, but placing it in a small room would make the sound too overwhelming. Considering it's volume, the pipe organ would is rarely suitable for accompaniment, but it is for solo pieces. A situation where the organ is used as accompaniement is when a large group of people sing together, for example in a choir or during a mass. Because the large group produces a lot of sound, the organ does not overpower them. Also, because the organ sustains so well, it makes it a lot more suitable to sing over than a harpsichord.  Most pipe organs have four keyboards with each 61 keys, which makes 244 keys in total. With a pipe organ you can also play bass notes with the foot pedal...
